Biography:
Rodrigo
Rodriguez was born in Argentina but moved to Spain in 1986. He
studied classical guitar up until the age of 22, but became interested in the
shakuhachi flute while he was in Spain. He traveled to Japan many
times to study at the International Shakuhachi Kenshu-kan School under Master
Kakizakai Kaoru. In In 2009 began studying with Miyata Kohachiro,
who is a prominent Japanese shakuhachi player.
In 2011-2012 Rodrigo Rodriguez received an invitation from
Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Tchaikovsky Conservatory
to perform in the XIV International Music Festival in Moscow, the theme for
that year was “the soul of Japan.” He became the first musician not
native of Japan or Europe to play the Shakuhachi at the Moscow conservatory
(Tchaikovsky Conservatory). In
2013, he release an album of traditional and contemporary Japanese music
dedicated to the Japanese ambassador Hasekura Tsunenaga entitled, “The Road of
Hasekura Tsunenaga music for Shakuhachi flute.” Rodrigo Rodriguez
currently works as an instructor for the Ministry of Education and Culture of
the Balearic Island in Spain.
